- *Why “Fook Seng”?
Honestly, in memory of Chef Ronnie’s father-in-law, we wanted to name it “Ah Gong Chicken Rice” (Ah Gong is grandfather, in Cantonese). But we didn’t want to use this term in vain and we surely didn’t want to draw crowd by tugging their heartstrings. We rather lure their taste buds.

Chef Ronnie then decided to use his offspring’s name, as his business is also his baby.

Why “GoldenHill”? Some might ask. Our restaurant is situated at Jalan Rumah Tinggi and translated to English means “Upland Mansion”.

So folks, we present to you, Fook Seng GoldenHill Chicken Rice!

- Hainanese Chicken Rice Vs. Cantonese Chicken Rice?
Chef Ronnie, although a Hakka, grew up in a Cantonese family environment.

And although he mastered the authentic way of preparing Hainanese Chicken Rice, and he already knew the Cantonese method, being the innovative yet unconventional man, he wanted to create a cuisine that’s authentically Singapore.

Hence, this bunch of Hakka-Cantonese man who has tried enough of mediocre Hainanese Chicken Rice, are unabashedly proud of their Singapore Chicken Rice.

- Chef Ronnie did a stint in Florida.
Chef Ronnie, was invited to a Chinese restaurant in Florida in September 2005 to share his culinary expertise to its head chef.

- A good actor needs great supporting cast
Our chicken meat is tender, our rice fragrant, but our homemade chilli sauce is out of this world. Are we boasting? You be the judge. We are very stringent with our preparation for we use only the freshest ingredients to their exact quantities to ensure that our chilli taste, yes, out of this world. Our soup is also prepared with the same principles, freshest ingredients prepared daily.

The original chef of “Singapore’s famous yet overpriced chicken rice found in a hotel” was once our staff. No kiddin’!

 

Have you ever bitten into a piece of cucumber and go “Yuck! It’s bitter!” Fear not. If you cut the end of a cucumber and rub the tip over it for about a minute, and when you see “sap” forming, you would have successfully extracted the “bitterness” out of a cucumber!

What do you get when you boil chicken? You get good ol’ chicken soup. And besides having more fluids, chicken soup is supposedly good for colds. Apparently, chicken soup has anti-inflammatory properties, so that could explain why it soothes sore throats and relieves cold symptoms.
